Origin: Mie Prefecture
This famous stone is also mentioned in the 'Kii Zokufu Toiki' (Continuation of the Folklore of Kii). During the Heian period, it was highly valued as a precious and luxurious stone.
It comes from Kumano City, where the World Heritage Kumano Kodo (Kumano Pilgrimage Routes) is located. The more it is polished, the more it reveals a beautiful, mysterious, jet-black luster, making it famous for its spiritual and powerful appearance.
The particles are 0.1 microns, so the texture is very fine and smooth, making it a pleasure to touch.
The 'Yatagarasu,' a bird symbolized as living within the sun and possessing spiritual power, is revered as the god of guidance and the god of traffic safety.
Meaning: Yatagarasu, protection from evil, safe travels
