Kurama Stone is one of the most powerful spiritual spots in Kyoto, originating from Kurama Mountain. According to legend, 6.5 million years ago, Sanat Kumara, the leader of the tengu (a mythical creature in Hinduism), descended from Venus to save humanity and landed at Kurama Mountain. The name "Kurama" came from a distortion of the name "Kumara." It is famously said that Ushiwakamaru (Minamoto no Yoshitsune) learned martial arts from the Kurama Tengu at this very location. It is believed to be beneficial to visit both Kurama Mountain and the Kifune Shrine as part of a spiritual journey. Kurama Stone is also popular as garden stones and building materials, with even small pieces being traded at high prices. Recently, its availability in the market has decreased.
