Kumano Hongu Ginkgo
Is this Hongu ginkgo tree that makes the Kumano road vivid during the autumn season. In addition the 400year old ginkgo tree is the precints of Hosenji Temple in Fukusada, near Kumano Hongu Taisha, is designated as a natural monument of the town.
The circumference of the trunk is 5.3mt and the height is 22 mt. It is a 4 mt high from the base and has a several trunks and is also called "1000 branchginkgo tree".
Originally ginkgo tree gave existed for about 200 million years and are said to be a symbol of longevity that`s why is said to be called the living fossil.
