This stone has a long history, named after the fact that its surface resembles an octopus. Larger rough stones can also be seen in suction cup-like patterns. Inujima, where it is produced, was once known as a source of large, high-quality stone, and Inujima stone was used in the largest stone wall of Osaka Castle, which was built in 1624 by Ikeda Tadao of the Bizen Ikeda Domain as a show of his prestige. It has a surface area of ​​36 tatami mats, 5.5cm high and 11.7m wide, and is said to weigh 108 tonnes in total. It is amazing that it was transported to Osaka Castle by sea from the Seto Inland Sea. It has coarse grains and a simple, rustic flavor.
