Japan Stone: Fukui Blue

Fukui Prefecture

Meaning: Competition luck.

This Echizen stone was discovered by the Emperor Keitao. Warlord Shibata Katsue loved this bluish green stones and it is said that he used these shakudani stones to make the roof of his castle. A lot of this stones were mined in many parts of Asuwayama in Fukui City. Fukui Prefecture and the stones mined in Shakudani district at the foot of the northwest side of the mountain have excellent quality, and when this stones get wet it`s turn in a very deep blue color.

In the Tumulus Period about 1500 years ago this stone were used for stone coffins. This stone were also loved by the Asakura Family who dominated the Echizen Province and used theme in stone object, including stone tower. In 1999 the mining was terminated, so the distribution is getting more and more rare. These stone are believed to grant passion and charisma and to lead to victory.
